Over the Boards: Rink Stories

Tales from interning in major junior hockey because the best stories happen at the rink.
I'm sad to say my hockey internship has come to an end. It was a wealth of knowledge, a valuable experience and will definitely beef up my resume.

Pro tip: Professional teams typically prefer internship and job candidates that have worked in the minors. Just like athletes, they want to see you paid your dues and prove your skills.

Of course, with every experience you gain enough stories to write a book, and my internship is no exception. I've already shared a few, and I could continue to write stories about the rink until my fingers fall off, but I'll curb my enthusiasm and keep this a trilogy. For now.

Week 1 Lessons

Sunday in SOHO
I've survived my first full week in the city. I've been there for a week and a half, but this was my first full week of work, of subway riding, and of the general amazing craziness that is in the city. I've learned a few important PR lessons in the short time I've been here, and they're worth a share.

Lip Service: May

As future PR people, it's super important to prep our pouts so we can confidently pitch and promote clients! Check out our top lip product picks this month!

Elise's Pick:

This month's obsession is probably my priciest pick yet (uh oh!), but it is incredible. I've been loving Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars! My new favorite shade is Queen, which looks like a pretty pink in the tube but actually has a bright coral-y orange look when it's on (a lovely surprise). My sister Catia gifted this to me last month as a little going away present.

So what is Lip Tar? It's a lip product that looks like a lipstick and acts like a stain. It has a liquid, gloss-like formula that applies smoothly with a brush and lasts FOREVER. The staying power of this product is unparalleled and a little dot of it goes a long way. I would definitely give this a try. If Queen isn't your shade, try the 45 others that you can blend together to create your perfect custom shade!

Jasmine's Pick:

Anyone that knows me can attest that I'm very minimal when it comes to make up. The more subdued, the better.

This month's lip obsession is Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain. My favorite shade is nude, of course. It's just enough to give your lips some color without being over the top, and it's great for every day wear.

It depends on the stain, but for this one, my trick is applying, letting set and then covering with a gloss or balm. With most things, letting it set is the key! I like to apply right after my foundation and let it set with that while, applying the rest of my makeup.

You can find Outlast lip stain anywhere you get CG products. I usually pick mine up at Ulta or Target--a college gal's best friends!
