Lessons in Love

Elise's writing process
Via Instagram

Once upon a time, I had a fashion blog.

It was my dream come true. I always wanted to write, and writing about a topic I was (and still am) head over heels obsessed with was the closest thing to perfect I think I'll ever experience. And the whole time I worked on this blog, I was pre-med. Being pre-med was something I liked. Science is what I was always told I was good at and what I should pursue. So, obviously, being me, I went for it.

To make a long story short (unless you want the long story, which you can find here), it didn't make me happy, so I went back to what did: writing.

Totally immersing yourself in your favorite hobbies isn't necessarily going to help you find happiness. That's not the whole idea I'm trying to get at.

So, what is my point?

Doing something you love, in my opinion, is the key to finding happiness. I love to read and to write and to pretend like I'm impacting the people who read this blog (because, honestly, I'm not sure whether or not I do, but I'd like to hope so!). I'm trying to build a career out of what I love. I know that I probably won't make as much money writing or being in PR or social media as I would if I wanted to be an attorney or doctor or something a lot of people in my life would call, "practical." But I think I've grown up enough to have gotten to the point that loving your job (and making enough to get by and buy a few pairs of impractical yet beautiful shoes) trumps making an exorbitant amount of money.

There are people I know who think I'm totally crazy because of the world and economy we live in. These are the same people that ask, "What do you do with an English major? Become a teacher?"
And I have to be like, "No, [insert polite explanation that also relays: I can do whatever the hell I want and it's not really any of your business because I'm happy]."

With the crazy amount of technology we have, you can create a career or a speciality within a career from any field that you love and feel passionate about.

Take a chance with love and go into the working world doing something that lets you wake up with a smile on your face every day.

XOX,

Elise
