Ramen Noodle Diet: Week 4

Courtesy of Google
For back-to-school month, a weekly post dedicated to money-saving tips from college kids for college kids.

Although the post title suggests otherwise, I'm not proposing the literal Ramen noodle diet, aka: eating cheap, unhealthy, never-expiring, Americanized, Asian noodles for four years because you're a broke mofo. I'm suggesting you cut down spending in non-health compromising ways.

This week's topic: fashion.

Daily college fashion ranges from dressing-to-the-nines to just-rolled-out-of-bed. Whether you're dressed-to-kill or dressed-to-sleep, here's a few hints to save some cash on clothing:
  • Get thrifty: Thrift stores or secondhand shops will save you a bundle on back-to-school threads. Check out your area for local secondhand stores instead of shopping Goodwill and Salvation Army. Also, look for consignment shops or stores such as Plato's Closet for nearly-new, name-brand clothes.
  • Brands don't matter: No one will crucify you for wearing a Target t-shirt. Sit down, take notes and do your homework.
  • Swap meet: Swap clothes with similar-size friends. A free way to change your wardrobe or try a new trend.
For most of us, the fall 2012 semester has already started. Go forth, conquer your classes and when exams are done, take some of your savings and treat yourself. ;)

Until next time...
